Fifth Sunday in Lent – Judica
26 March 2023
Jesus Is Our Redemption
In the temple Jesus said, “If anyone keeps my word, he will never see death” (John 8:51). For Jesus came to taste death for us—to drink the cup of suffering to the dregs in order that we might be released from its power. Clinging to His life-giving words, we are delivered from death’s sting and its eternal judgment. Christ is our High Priest, who entered the Most Holy Place and with His own blood obtained everlasting redemption for His people (Heb. 9:11–15). He is the One who was before Abraham was, and yet is his descendant. He is the promised Son who carries the wood up the mountain for the sacrifice, who is bound and laid upon the altar of the cross. He is the ram who is offered in our place, who is willingly caught in the thicket of our sin, and who wears the crown of thorns upon His head (Gen. 22:1–14). Though Jesus is dishonored by the sons of the devil, He is vindicated by the Father through the cross.
Parish News
Judica The Fifth Sunday in Lent (Passion Sunday) takes its name “Judica” from the first word of the Introit in Latin, “Judge” (Psalm 43.1) (also translated Vindicate). Today begins Passiontide, the final two weeks of Lent. Crucifixes are veiled in violet to teach that, in suffering, Our Lord hides His glory.
Midweek Lenten Meal Join us on Wednesday evenings for a meal before Lenten Vespers. Meal begins at 5:30 pm, Vespers Service at 7:00 pm. Please use the bulletin insert to make your reservation.
Your Help Will Be Needed! Pr. Cockran has requested 2-3 pickup trucks be available when the moving truck arrives in Terre Haute so the movers can load the boxes of his books into the pickups. The plan is to take them directly to church. We also need some muscle and hand carts available to unload at church. The date of his arrival will be the morning of either March 31 or April 1 (more details available next week!). Please set aside time to assist in getting Pastor Cockran settled in here at Immanuel. Thanks!

Make Sure Your Family Is Included! We still have LOTS of members missing from our new directory. Deadline is April 30. Please email your photo and updated contact information to stacy.gibbens@ielcth.org.
