Jubilate – Fourth Sunday of Easter
08 May 2022
Those Who Wait on the Lord Shall RejoiceĀ
The people of God are pilgrims and sojourners in this world, looking ahead to a destination yet to come (1 Peter 2:11ā20). Though we are now children of God, the fullness of what we shall be has not yet been revealed (1 John 3:1ā3). We are those who wait on the Lord. āThe Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks himā (Lam. 3:25). Jesus tells us that the wait is just a little while. āA little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see meā (John 16:16). Though you must experience sorrow for a time, though you must live as strangers in a world that is at enmity with Christ, yet your sorrow will be turned to joy when He returns. āBut they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strengthā (Is. 40:31). The little while of weeping shall be replaced with an eternity of rejoicing in the presence of Christ the crucified and risen Savior. āAnd no one will take your joy from youā (John 16:22).
Parish News
JubilateĀ means āMake a joyful shout,ā from the first verse of Psalm 66.Ā This Psalm expresses the joy and thanksgiving that are the response of faith to Godās creative and redemptive acts.Ā This joyful Psalm attributes praise and glory to God alone, for it is He that āturned sea into dry landā to deliver His people form bondage through the Red Sea, and it is He that keeps our soul among the living,ā delivering His people from bondage to sin and death by the waters of Holy Baptism. āBut certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.Ā Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me!ā
